The fineliner universe of Koen Taselaar consists of milkshakes, lenses, microphones and nuclear missiles.

The drawings of Koen Taselaar (1986) are highly personal, original and refreshingly contemporary. At that time Taselaar drew everything that appeared interesting to him - from staplers, the euro, sprinkles, sluts, covers, beers to Google. Everything is substantially drawn in the characteristic Taselaar handwriting that leaves no millimetre of the paper untouched. He exorcises any horror vacui with fineliners and markers. In each exhibition I am focused on and alert to the manner of presentation of the work. Koen Taselaar felt that more than any other. He came up with a wonderful proposal for a mural in the same color as the floor that would connect all drawings.

From an entrepreneurial and practical spirit the artist bundles his drawings in booklets and some of these became part of the exhibition. On the occasion of his 21rozendaal exhibition the latest booklet ′Big Words Empty Chords′ appeared containing drawings of fictional bands. I suggested to Taselaar that he do a poster project as he had done earlier in Berlin. Together with graphic designer Janneke de Rooij, he went to work. During their stay in Enschede they reacted to the city through home-designed posters that turned up in unexpected places. The posters were like breadcrumbs that led from the city centre to 21rozendaal in the Roombeek district. They were also included in the exhibition as souvenirs for visitors to take away.

I transformed the unused upper floor of 21rozendaal into exhibition space. Here I gave young Dutch artists under the heading 1UP the chance to make a first solo. Besides Koen Taselaar it were, Jeroen Rijnders, Patrick van Vught, Das BilT and Evelien Lohbeck.
