Every now and then Château de Lacaze opens it doors to a select group of artists and curators. In the summer of 2016 artists Samuel Boutruche, Marie Maillard, Pier Stockholm and myself accepted the invitation to take part. The week preceding the opening the château also functions as a residency. Together with the inhabitants Ghislaine Portalis and Jacques Vieille, being artists themselves, we’ve exchanged our thoughts about art, life and everything else that passes. The mesmerizing château is one of the elements of this exhibition. Each room and the grounds are carefully being restored. Being a rather intuitive title ‘Radical Country’ nevertheless also points to the research that the three artists are doing. All three are researching what it means to be an artist today and how they can add something valuable to the plethora of objects and images that already exist.
